Description
What is Mosquito Shield?
Mosquito Shield was founded in September of 2001 in response to the absence of an effective residential mosquito control service and the inadequacy of control products such as body sprays, candles and mosquito magnets. With millions of treatments and over 400 franchise locations later, Mosquito Shield’s proprietary control products and specialized spray techniques keep tens of thousands of American homes mosquito and tick-free every year. Our company founder, started as franchise owner with a national lawn care franchise and, having listened to the evolving needs of his customers, understood there was a market for a residential mosquito control service and decided to strike out on his own. He started developing his own proprietary blend of all-natural oils and select control products, and testing application methods and treatment frequencies with the goal of perfecting an effective and responsible solution. The result was Mosquito Shield, a service that turns any treated property into a mosquito-free zone by killing and repelling mosquitoes and other harmful outdoor pests. Mosquito Shield spent the next few years refining its customer acquisition and retention strategies, and taking a methodical approach to growth that led to the launch of its proprietary tick control service, Tick Shield, and special event service, Event Shield. The Mosquito Shield Franchise Corporation was launched in 2013 and has since developed into the leading franchise opportunity in this growing home services sector. By combining a great product with past experience as a franchisee, our founder and team established a franchise model that delivers a superior experience for both consumers and owners. In March of 2022, Mosquito Shield was acquired by Five Star Franchising, an innovative service-based franchise platform company. Five Star has a mission to ensure its brands are top performers in technology, marketing, branding, and people. With a franchisee-first approach to business, Five Star excels at ensuring local-market success for each of their franchisees. Residential mosquito and tick control services are now part of a structural pest control industry that will generate an estimated $23.2 billion in total service revenue in the United States in 2024 (source), with a 5.7% CAGR through 2032 (source). With the threat of mosquito and tick-borne illnesses on the rise in the United States, the residential mosquito control market has become the fastest-growing pest control segment. Due to shifting land use patterns, global travel and trade, and a changing climate, the threat of existing and emerging vector-borne diseases continues to grow. Perimeter Shield, a service for spiders, ants and other pests, was launched to the entire franchise system in 2023 as an additional revenue stream.
